Thriving through menopause

Last month, I turned 51—and I’ve never felt better, both physically and mentally. It’s been a transformative journey, and now, I’m passionate about helping others feel their best, no matter their age.

More women are opening up about their struggles with perimenopause and menopause, often feeling frustrated or helpless. Just last week, I reassured a patient, “You’re not going crazy; it’s your hormones.” After just two acupuncture sessions, she felt “less angry” and “more calm.”

Here are a few strategies I follow on my own perimenopause journey:

  1. Increase Protein, Fiber, and Healthy Fats
Diet is personal, but the right balance is key. While animal protein is more easily absorbed, plant-based options can be just as effective—though you may need more to get the same benefit.

  2. Say Goodbye to Alcohol & Prioritize Sleep
Our bodies no longer metabolize alcohol the same way, and it can disrupt sleep. Without quality rest, nothing else works as it should.

  3. Lift Heavier & Cut Back on Cardio
Intense cardio can raise cortisol levels, leading to belly fat. Focus on strength training to preserve muscle mass, which naturally declines with decreasing estrogen levels. (And this is why protein is so important!)

  4. Support Hormonal Balance with Acupuncture and Herbs
Acupuncture and herbal remedies can help ease hot flashes, mood swings, and fatigue by balancing your body’s energies and regulating hormones.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menopause is seen as a natural life stage, not a medical condition. TCM focuses on restoring balance and nourishing the body’s internal systems, rather than simply suppressing symptoms.

My holistic approach combines acupuncture, herbal remedies, dietary changes, and lifestyle adjustments—all designed to support and empower you during this transition. Treatments are highly personalized to address your unique symptoms, whether they’re hot flashes, fatigue, or mood swings.

People often ask how I maintain a youthful appearance. In addition to regular acupuncture, which balances hormones, reduces inflammation, and calms the nervous system, I also practice facial acupuncture and microneedling. This helps me feel—and look—my best.

Supporting women to flourish during this stage of life has become one of my greatest passions. Menopause isn’t something to endure; it’s a time to step into your power and embrace a vibrant, fulfilling future. With the right support, this transition can lead to renewed strength, purpose, and joy.
