(Wo)men.no.pause

(Wo)men.no.pause is my forward-thinking philosophy and approach to menopause. In Western medicine and American daily life, menopause has long been a taboo and little-discussed topic. What happens to our bodies after a certain age is considered negative and shameful. There’s an implication that our lives stop evolving and start declining — that we’re eternally paused by our lack of ability to bear children. I want to flip the dialogue for my clients as well as for myself (I’m in perimenopause!), which is why I’ve turned to my heritage and culture for inspiration.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menopause is viewed as a natural stage in a woman's life, not a medical condition. The focus is on balance between the body’s energies and nourishment of the internal systems, rather than symptom suppression. TCM’s holistic approach to menopause care will:

  • address the underlying imbalance in the body

  • aim to restore harmony between the Yin and Yang

  • support the body's natural processes

My holistic treatment for menopause includes a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle changes aimed at restoring balance and supporting the body through this transition. TCM treatments are highly individualized and symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, or fatigue may be treated with different acupuncture points and herbal formulas that depend on each client's unique pattern of imbalance.

We don’t have to suffer or feel ashamed through this transition. Since turning 49, I’ve experienced a range of simultaneous perimenopausal symptoms: insomnia, weight gain, hair loss, hot flashes, mood swings, lack of motivation, and more. Fortunately, I know exactly what changes to make and which treatments to seek. I’ve also immersed myself in the latest research and remedies, and allowing women to thrive through this stage has become one of my most passionate pursuits. I look forward to helping each client feel the same level of comfort I’ve established for myself.
